Charism and Spirituality (Core Values)

In the spirit of the Beatitudes, we believe and give witness to

1. Charity (super omnia caritas: above all, charity)

Jn 4:19, We, for our part, love, because he first loved us. The foundation of charity is the gratuitousness of God’s love for us sinners. God loves us more in spite of us than because of us. Our very own weakness finds strength and consolation in the infinite mercy of God and in the vastness of God’s plan of salvation for sinful humanity. Charity is thus fittingly called a theological virtue, for its origin, orientation and destination can only be God.

If charity is the foundation of every human family, more so should it be the foundation of every consecrated community. Let us therefore be humble, for only the humble can truly love. Only the humble can truly serve. Above all, let your love for one another be constant, for love covers a multitude of sins (1 Pet 4:8). Thus all search for perfection, all search for holiness can only find its fruitfulness in the nature and work of charity. We cannot be called perfect or holy, if charity does not reign in our hearts. Love is the fulfillment of the law (Rom 13:10).

2. Zeal for God’s Kingdom (proclaiming the Gospel in worship, word and witness, humility and service)

3. Growth in Wisdom and Grace (human and spiritual growth, continuous formation and conversion, the Spirit as God’s pledge, cf. 2 Cor 5:5)

4. Trust in Divine Providence (a life of prayer and hope)
1 Pt 5:7 Cast all your cares on him, because he cares for you.
Trust in God’s Presence: Emmanuel: God-with-us
Trust in God’s Power: It is I; do not be afraid
Trust in God’s Mercy: ‘Into your hands, O Lord’

5. Living the Passion and Compassion of Christ
Col 1:24, “Even now I find my joy in the suffering I endure for you. In my own flesh I fill up what is lacking in the sufferings of Christ for the sake of his body the Church.”
Sharing in the sufferings of Christ
2 Thess 3:13, You must never grow weary of doing what is right, brothers.
Sharing in the Ministry of Compassion: Blessed are the poor in spirit.
